BEIJING – CHINESE President Xi Jinping has expressed China’s readiness to work closely with Brazil to set a global example of unity and self-reliance among major nations in the Global South, while advancing a fairer and more sustainable world order.
Speaking in a phone call with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Tuesday, Xi hailed bilateral relations as being at their strongest in history.
He noted that the China-Brazil community with a shared future is making steady progress, with development strategies of the two countries increasingly aligned.
Xi reaffirmed China’s support for Brazil’s national sovereignty and legitimate rights, urging a united stand against unilateralism and protectionism.
He praised Brazil’s successful hosting of the recent BRICS Summit, calling the bloc a vital platform for building consensus among developing nations.
The Chinese leader also encouraged joint efforts to address global challenges, ensure the success of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Belem, and advance peace initiatives such as the “Friends of Peace” group for resolving the Ukraine crisis.
President Lula emphasised Brazil’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with China, highlighting shared goals in upholding multilateralism, defending free trade, and protecting sovereignty.
He commended China’s responsible role in international affairs and pledged closer coordination within platforms like BRICS to resist unilateral “bullying” and safeguard common interests.
Both leaders underscored the importance of stronger bilateral ties in shaping a more just and balanced international system.
