NEW DELHI – INDIA has criticised the United States for pressuring it to stop buying Russian oil while Washington continues to import billions worth of Russian goods itself.
In 2024, the US is reported to have imported over $3 billion in goods from Russia —enough to fund around 660 T-90 military tanks.
Indian officials say such actions expose Washington’s double standards.
Last week Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar called for a fair global system that avoids dominance by any one nation.
Echoing the same sentiments was India’s Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal, who confirmed the government is reviewing the impact of US pressure and is in talks with local exporters and industries to protect India’s economic interests.
New Delhi insists it will not compromise its energy security or strategic autonomy due to foreign political pressure.
