JOHANNESBURG – THE African diaspora is exploring how Bitcoin can drive financial freedom, innovation and economic empowerment in the continent.
This is under the aegis of the inaugural Africa Bitcoin Conference Diaspora (ABCD), the three-day event starting on Friday in Boston, United States.
The event is the forerunner of the Africa Bitcoin Conference (ABC), rated the largest Bitcoin-focused gathering on the continent, scheduled for Kenya in December.
According to organisers of both events, ABCD is to unite the global African diaspora around financial freedom, innovation and economic empowerment.
Bitcoin visionaries lauded for shaping the future of Bitcoin and Africa’s digital economy, are lined up to participate, including Ella Hough, Femi Longe, Lorraine Marcel, Kgotatso Ngako and Lamar Wilson, are lined up to participate.
The programme is scheduled to feature workshops, a Diaspora Business and Innovation Lab, investor and networking sessions, as well as exploring Bitcoin’s role in movement building, refugee protection and women’s empowerment.
“ABCD is more than a conference. It is where ideas, capital, and community come together to shape Africa’s future through freedom technology,” said Farida Nabourema, convener of both conferences.
ABCD is organised in partnership with the Boston African Festival, which celebrates the heritage and future of the African diaspora.
Overall, the ABC series brings together thought leaders, industry experts, and enthusiasts to explore the vast opportunities that Bitcoin offers in the African continent.
While the continent’s crypto market remains smaller compared to others, Bitcoin adoption is growing in Africa, particularly in countries like Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Nigeria.
BitcoinCoin Africa adds Ghana and Zimbabwe to the list.
