CAPE TOWN – MARATHON great Eliud Kipchoge will kick off his Eliud’s Running World tour at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
The tour spans seven marathons across all continents, aiming to inspire communities, unite runners worldwide, and promote healthy living.
“Africa is where my journey as a runner began,” said Kipchoge. “Starting this World Tour in Cape Town is very special. It’s about celebrating African running and inspiring the next generation.”
The Cape Town Marathon attracts thousands of elite athletes and amateur runners. In 2026, over 27,000 runner are expected, with the race moving closer to Abbott World Marathon Majors status—the first Major on African soil.
Clark Gardner, CEO of the marathon, added, “Hosting Kipchoge here will inspire young runners and show the world the power of athletics to connect communities.”
