LUSAKA – ZAMBIA has received a progress report on PowerChina’s International Groups operations in the host country.
President Hakainde Hichilema received the report when he held a working session with a delegation led by Tang Yuhua, Board Director and President of PowerChina.
The report covered the implementation status of projects in water resources, power, and agriculture being undertaken in collaboration with various government ministries.
“We are pleased to note that our visit to the PowerChina Headquarters during the 2024 in Beijing is already bearing fruit,” Hichilema said.
FOCAC is the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
“We look forward to deepening this partnership further, as we work together to deliver tangible development outcomes that improve the lives of our people and strengthen the bond between our nations,” Hichilema said.
The power utility, Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO), on Wednesday officially signed the second phase agreement for the Chisamba Solar Plant with PowerChina.
This expands the project’s total capacity to 200MW.
Hichilema witnessed the signing of the project at the Zambia International Conference, hosted by the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
The milestone comes a fortnight after the successful commissioning of Phase 1 (100MW), which is now Zambia’s largest operational solar facility and one of the biggest in the continent.
Once operational, the 200MW facility is expected to significantly enhance electricity supply, support industrial growth, and strengthen Zambia’s position in the regional power market.
