CAPE TOWN – THE Springboks restored pride with a 30–22 victory over Australia at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, just two weeks after suffering a disappointing 22–38 defeat to the same opponents at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
The result provided a timely morale boost for South African supporters, who had been left frustrated by the earlier loss.
Attention now shifts to an even tougher challenge as the Boks prepare to face arch-rivals New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday, 6 September.
The All Blacks, widely regarded as South Africa’s fiercest opponents, promise a stern test on home soil.
Despite Saturday’s victory, questions remain over the Springboks’ consistency. The team’s relatively inexperienced players have yet to prove their mettle in high-pressure games, while defensive frailties remain a major concern.
In contrast, New Zealand have looked sharp in attack and continue to pose one of the most formidable threats in world rugby.
