POLOKWANE – THE MTN8 Wafa Wafa Cup semifinals promise high drama on Saturday, with Stellenbosch FC hosting in-form Sekhukhune United in the first leg at Danie Craven Stadium, followed by a blockbuster clash between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in Soweto.
While much attention will focus on the defending champions Pirates against reigning Premiership title holders Sundowns, the Stellenbosch–Sekhukhune encounter could set the tone for this year’s competition.
Eric Tinkler’s Sekhukhune have started the season strongly, edging TS Galaxy 3–2 in the MTN8 quarterfinal and winning both their opening league matches against Pirates and Galaxy.
Nigerian striker Chibuike Ohizu, alongside Keletso Makgalwa, Bradley Grobler and Siphesihle Mkhize, will spearhead their attack, while Daniel Cardoso anchors a solid defence in front of reliable goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner.
However, Steve Barker’s Stellenbosch, who beat AmaZulu 3–2 to reach the semifinals, remain dangerous.
Despite mixed league results, they boast attacking threats in Langelihle Phili, Devin Titus, and Ashley Cupido, with goalkeepers Sage Stephens and Oscarine Masuluke providing security for Stellenbosch at the back.
In the earlier semifinal, new Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou faces mounting pressure after two league defeats. The Buccaneers, however, will be eager to defend their MTN8 crown and avenge recent losses, though they face a Sundowns side in rampant form.
