HARARE – OUTRAGE is mounting in Zimbabwe after premiership Yadah Football Club goalkeeper, Godknows Gurure, was brutally assaulted by a team official following the club’s shock defeat to Ngezi Platinum.
Yadah, who had led 2-0, conceded three late goals to lose 3-2 in a Premiership clash at Heart Stadium. The official identified as Spencer Muvadi allegedly accused Gurure of allowing “silly goals” before attacking him, leaving the young goalkeeper with serious head and dental injuries.
Calls are growing for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to arrest Muvadi, who has been identified as the assailant. Supporters argue justice is vital to protect players from similar abuse in future.
Veteran sports commentator Charles Mabika condemned the incident, saying: “It must be made clear that Yadah FC’s executive member has set a very bad precedent by insulting and assaulting a young player, as if he plays alone for the team.”
Sources confirmed that the club owner has since reached out to Gurure and intends to visit him at home.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has requested a full report from Yadah after receiving a complaint from the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ).
PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said: “The safety, security and welfare of players, officials and all stakeholders remain our top priority. Appropriate measures will be taken in line with our rules once all reports have been reviewed.”
Fans also expressed outrage on social media, with many demanding accountability.
