DURBAN – VISITING Senegalese senior national football team thrashed hosts England 3-1 in a thrilling friendly match played at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on Tuesday.
Senegal scored their vital goals through Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra and Cheikh Sabaly while England, who found the opener courtesy of Captain Harry Kane’s strike left many English fans calling for the immediate resignation of national team manager Thomas Tuchel.
Sengal, which is rated 19th in the world while England is 4th according to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) did the unthinkable.
Elsewhere in Africa, South Africa beat visiting Mozambique 2-0 in another international friendly played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Bafana Bafana grabbed their goals from Sinoxolo Kwayiba and substitute Ashley Cupido.
Meanwhile, four African teams to the revamped Club World Cup in the United States are set to pocket a whopping $9.55 million (€8.4 million) each as appearance fees.
A total of 16 world football teams drawn from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America are set to participate in this set to kick off on Saturday, 14th June.
The African continent is represented by Al Ahly of Egypt, Esperance of Tunisia, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco respectively.
