JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH Africa has been ranked among the world’s top 15 most popular dream destinations, according to a new social media travel trends study by UK-based long-haul specialists Travelbag.
The research analysed Instagram hashtags and TikTok posts for 70 global hotspots, revealing Dubai as the world’s most talked-about location, boasting more than 143 million Instagram tags and over 40 million TikTok mentions.
Bali, Indonesia, came in second, followed by Tokyo, Japan. South Africa’s Cape Town claimed 10th place, with 15 million Instagram hashtags and 2.3 million TikTok posts.
The survey also found that nearly one in three Brits are inspired to book holidays after seeing destinations online.
Travelbag’s Dubai expert, Sheryl Drane, encouraged travellers to seek hidden gems, from the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood to private desert camps, for more authentic experiences.
